According to reports, Liverpool triggered an £8.5 million payment as part of Darwin Nunez‘s Benfica transfer.
Nunez signed a club-record agreement to join Liverpool in the summer of 2022 after playing for the Portuguese powerhouses for two years.
Despite the transfer being valued at an estimated £85 million, the Reds only paid £64 million up front; add-ons cost the remainder £21 million.

After the Uruguayan made ten games for the Merseyside club, Liverpool was ordered to reimburse Benfica £4.3 million.
The Mirror claims that after Nunez made his 60th appearance for the team in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City, they will now have to pay a further £8.5 million.
Nunez had a great international run, scoring three goals in two games for Uruguay, and was awarded his seventh Premier League start of the year.
Erling Haaland’s opening goal was cancelled out in the 80th minute by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was unable to score for the forward in the pivotal Premier League match.
Nunez, who was substituted in the 85th minute, and Man City manager Pep Guardiola got into a heated argument after the final siren at the Etihad Stadium.
Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, had to draw the Uruguay international away after he was questioned about if the player’s response was affected by the rivalry between the two teams.
You see that on the field, Klopp told reporters, adding that it has nothing to do with the intense rivalry. The current state of play on the field has nothing to do with the long-standing rivalry.
“I don’t believe Darwin Nunez is knowledgeable about that. It’s only feelings. I’m not sure if I should be the one to explain. Unsurprisingly, I have no involvement.
