Arsenal Pursues Joao Palhinha: Transfer Race Heating Up!
Despite almost sealing a move away during the summer transfer window, the 28-year-old decided to stay at Craven Cottage and has since participated in 11 Premier League games for Marco Silva’s team.
Palhinha, who plays defensive midfield for Mikel Arteta’s Gunners and Brighton & Hove Albion, has scored twice in the league while creating a ripple effect.
Since making his debut for Portugal in March 2021, the former Sporting Lisbon player has been a constant in the national team’s engine room despite fierce competition. He has earned 24 caps for Roberto Martinez’s team.
Journalist Connor Humm claims that Arsenal has compiled a list of midfield targets for the summer and the forthcoming January transfer window.
Although the North Londoners have not yet contacted the Cottagers or the player’s representation, the report suggests that the Gunners have included Fulham enforcer Palhinha on their shortlist of players.
It is believed that any transfer for the Portuguese player will happen at the end of the 2023–24 season, so the midfield player won’t be starting with players like Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard in the new year.
Although Palhinha is admired by many, including the Gunners, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are still interested in signing the 28-year-old.

During the summer transfer window, Thomas Tuchel’s team attempted a last-ditch effort to sign Palhinha; but, on deadline day, the player’s transfer to Germany fell through.
The midfielder agreed to new terms at Craven Cottage after his deal to the Bavarian giants fell through, thus securing his contract with the West Londoners until 2028.
Palhinha’s contract has more than four years left on it, so Fulham will be well-positioned to strike a hard bargain with any prospective bidders in the summer or new year.
If Palhinha leaves the team in the near future, it is thought that Silva’s team is looking for replacements, with Andre from Fluminense apparently drawing their attention.
Since making his debut for the Brazilian powerhouses in June 2020, the 22-year-old has made 167 appearances. Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly showing interest in the player.
On Wednesday night, when Fulham hosts Nottingham Forest in the capital, Palhinha and his teammates will be looking to get back to winning ways after losing a thrilling seven-goal match against Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield.
