Marc Cucurella, a defender for Chelsea, is apparently being considered by Aston Villa as a possible summer transfer target.

With a fourth-place finish in the Premier League rankings, the West Midlands team is currently aiming to cap off one of its best seasons in decades.

That would then lead to Champions League qualification, which would help allay any remaining concerns over the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

Unai Emery’s squad has been stretched this season by competing in the Europa Conference League, so he will want to see Villa through to the end before deciding on any possible acquisitions.

In addition to maybe trying to bolster areas where Villa have occasionally been weak because of injuries, Emery might prioritise finding a new left-back.

Despite sharing the effort this season and totaling three goals and three assists between them, both Lucas Digne and Alex Moreno are now thirty years old.

A younger option will eventually need to be looked for, possibly including Cucurella, whether it is under Emery or another management.

TEAMtalk reports that, should they be successful in striking a deal with Chelsea, Villa would be interested in hiring Cucurella.

Given that the Spain international cost more than £60 million to acquire from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2022, it may be easier said than done.

There have been moments this season when Cucurella, 25, has made enough progress to warrant his price tag, even though it cannot be said that he has not lived up to it.

In 2023–24, Cucurella made a total of eighteen starts and one replacement appearance. Since returning from ankle surgery, Cucurella has generally performed well in his seven starts.

Ben Chilwell’s inability to string together a series of victories complicates matters, however Cucurella can step in admirably when needed.

Conversely, Chelsea would benefit from selling Cucurella if they could discover a way to meet the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations.

There is no mention of a transfer fee, although prior rumours have suggested that Chelsea may consider offers around £30 million, even with the significant loss on the first deal.
