Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane Rejects Summer Transfer to Barcelona
With his Allianz Arena contract set to end in the summer of 2025, there is a lot of talk right now over the 28-year-old’s future.
It’s believed that Manchester United and Liverpool, two other Premier League teams, are keeping a close eye on the situation and would be interested in getting him back to the team.
Sport claims that Barcelona expressed their strong interest in Sane, considering him to be among the top options to bolster their offensive line in the upcoming transfer window.
According to the report, Barcelona was placed on notice because of Sane’s contract predicament, and they were looking to sign a winger who could score goals and provide assists.
The German could now choose to sign a new deal at Allianz Arena after showing promise for Thomas Tuchel’s team during the 2023–24 campaign.
In 29 appearances for Bayern this season, Sane has tallied nine goals and twelve assists, including eight goals and eleven assists in 20 games in Germany’s premier division.
The forward joined Bayern from Man City in the summer of 2020, and since then, he has played 162 games for the Munich team, tallying 47 goals and 49 assists.
Near the conclusion of the previous year, Sane said to reporters, “I haven’t given it any thought.” The club would like to hold discussions, but for now, I would like to focus on the season. Bayern will be my first point of contact, everything else will take care of itself.”
Sane began his professional career with Schalke 04, making 57 appearances for their first team between 2014 and 2016. After that, he moved to Man City, where he made 135 appearances and scored 39 goals and 46 assists.
The forward will want to assist his team win two more trophies this season. During his stint in Munich, he has won three Bundesliga crowns and two German Cups.
Bayern will play Lazio in the Champions League last-16 round. Currently, they are two points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga standings.
In order to make room for a new forward, Barcelona is rumoured to be eager to trade Raphinha this summer.
However, Joan Laporta, the club president, has urged that a long-term agreement for on-loan Atletico Madrid attacker Joao Felix is still being pursued.
