Tuesday’s DFB-Pokal match between Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg will decide who advances to the quarterfinals.
The hosts will have the opportunity to record back-to-back wins, while the visitors are searching for an answer following their loss to Bochum on Saturday.
Gladbach, led by Gerardo Seoane, will enter the game on Tuesday on a wave of success that includes four victories in their past six competitive games (D1, L1), including a victory at home against Hoffenheim on Saturday.
In the second, Alassane Plea scored the first goal of the game with his sixth goal of the year, finishing from the penalty spot. Wout Weghorst of Hoffenheim responded two minutes later.

After destroying Bersenbruck 7-0 and defeating Heidenheim 3-1 to guarantee their spot in the round of16, they will now postpone their league campaign in order to concentrate on their third cup match of the year.
Having won their past four competitive games at Borussia-Park, Gladbach, who last won the Pokal in 1994–95, will be seeking to build on their strong home form as they aim to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since the 2020–21 campaign.
Unlike their hosts, Niko Kovac’s team has been playing inconsistently lately; in their previous five competitive games, they have won two, drawn one, and lost two.
One of those two losses was against Tuesday’s opponents after they suffered a crushing 4-0 loss when they travelled to Borussia-Park earlier this month. The other two victories came against RB Leipzig, including a 1-0 victory in the cup’s second round.
In their most recent game, Wolfsburg lost 3-1 against Bochum, which was disheartening since it was their sixth straight loss away from home. As a result, they were tied for 10th place with Gladbach despite their disadvantage.
The 2014–15 Pokal champions, like their rivals, hope to win the championship just twice in their history by making it to the quarterfinals for the first time since the 2020–21 campaign.

After losing their previous eight matches in a row, die Wolfe are hoping to defeat Gladbach for the first time since they won the Bundesliga 2-1 in December 2019.

Due to injury concerns, Gladbach is still unable to use Jonas Onlim, Ko Itakura, Tony Jantschke, Jordan, and Hannes Wolf.
Maximilian Wober, Julian Weigl, and Tomas Cvancara are also questionable because they were not there for Saturday’s victory over Hoffenheim.
Due to an injury, defenseman Nico Elvedi had to leave the game over the weekend; he will need to be evaluated before Tuesday’s cup match.
For the visiting team, midfielder Patrick Wimmer is still out due to an ankle injury, while forward Felix Nmecha is also out due to a knee injury.
Maximilian Arnold, Amin Sarr, and Sebastiaan Bornauw are still questionable for the midweek cup match because they were not present for Saturday’s loss to Bochum.
Joakim Maehle, an international for Denmark, might be added to the team to replace an injured player this coming weekend.
