Luke Shaw, a defender for Manchester United, is apparently a target for Chelsea.

The Blues are said to be looking for fresh players despite spending more than £1 billion in the last three transfer windows.

Before the end of January, head coach Mauricio Pochettino is rumoured to be interested in signing a new centre-back, attacker, and central midfielder.

It remains to be seen if that happens, but it won’t be an easy process because Chelsea will need to exercise caution to avoid short- and long-term violations of FFP restrictions.

Nevertheless, it is not out of the question to recruit a new left-back in the future given that Ian Maatsen was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund and his future looks far from assured.

Ben Chilwell has been plagued by persistent injury problems, Marc Cucurella has been frequently linked to a transfer elsewhere, and current centre Levi Colwill is anticipated to return at some point.

Journalist Simpn Phillips claims that the West Londoners have identified Shaw as a possible candidate.

Shaw has spent over ten seasons at Old Trafford, making 270 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions.

Given that his contract is set to expire in 2027, it is currently anticipated that the 28-year-old will stay at the Theatre of Dreams for the foreseeable future.

But given Shaw’s history of injuries and United’s need to improve their FFP standing eventually, a move might be possible if the right offer is made.

Pochettino is also well-known to Shaw, having collaborated with him throughout Southampton’s early years from January 2013 to May 2014.

Shaw has only made 10 starts this season due to a muscular issue, with his final start occurring on December 23.

Phillips adds that Manchester City’s Sergio Gomez is a surprising name on Chelsea’s shortlist, the Spaniard out of favour at the Etihad Stadium and with similar versatile traits to that of Maatsen.
