There are apparently disagreements among influential Chelsea figures regarding the sale of Conor Gallagher during the January transfer window.

In the Premier League from 2023–24, Gallagher has made as many starts as just three players—the other two being Thiago Silva and Enzo Fernandez.

Additionally, since head coach Mauricio Pochettino named the academy graduate his third-choice captain in the summer, the player has worn the armband when Reece James and Ben Chilwell are not available.

Nevertheless, despite his elevated standing at his childhood team, the 23-year-old’s future has been a frequent subject of discussion, which hasn’t been made any easier by the arrival of central midfielders in 2023.

In large-scale contracts, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Romeo Lavia have inked long-term agreements; Carney Chukwuemeka will be added later on as appropriate.

Gallagher’s aggressive pressing style has occasionally greatly benefited Chelsea and provided something unique, but due to Chelsea’s FFP problems and his contractual obligations, it is now likely that he will be traded.

The Daily Mail claims that more Stamford Bridge staff members believe they ought to consider offers for the England international.

Gallagher’s current contract has just over 18 months left on it, so Chelsea must move quickly to keep him valuable in the transfer market.

A price tag of about £40 million has been floated in the past, but any potential buyers understand that Chelsea will be in a worse situation next summertime if they arrive with Gallagher still at the club and without new terms agreed to.

Even though Chelsea has invested more than £1 billion in three transfer windows, Pochettino is rumoured to seek to bolster his roster with a new centre defender, central midfielder, and attacker.

Chelsea will inevitably have to sell a lot of players due to their claimed net spending of over £700 million, and FFP believes that making money off of an academy graduate like Gallagher would be a clean profit.

The source further states that Tottenham Hotspur will think about rekindling their prior interest in Gallagher if it turns out he is available in January, at a time when any progress in contract negotiations is reportedly limited.

Although Pochettino has said before that he wants Gallagher in his team, it’s uncertain if he will change his mind if it means he can afford to bolster his roster with more height and strength.
