Rejected For most of the 2010s, Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara, who batted at number three for the national side, responded to the BCCI’s new Test cricket strategy.

The BCCI general secretary Jay Shah unveiled the new plan last week on the same day that India won the 4-1 Test series against England in Dharamshala.

In addition to providing incentives for the players, the plan will strengthen cricket’s most traditional format.

To prevent Test cricket from going extinct, there was a lot of clamour and protest among the cricket community.

It started when players began to consistently disregard red-ball cricket in favour of franchise-based competitions held all over the world.

But Cheteshwar Pujara believes it’s a huge initiative, and that won’t be the case in India anymore.

Cheteshwar Pujara praised Jay Shah for his decision to preserve and strengthen the longest format on X, the former Twitter.

Pujara, who most recently played for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy 2024 before losing to the opposition in the pre-quarterfinals, thinks it’s a significant advancement.

Cheteshwar Pujara began his tweet by confirming that he was on a “refreshing” holiday with his family and that things became much more refreshing after seeing Jay Shah’s tweet.

Pujara emphasised that players who risk everything to play for India’s Test team will be rewarded and encouraged by the program.

“Recently returned from a rejuvenating family vacation, and much more rejuvenating to witness such a fantastic endeavour by Jay Shah and the BCCI!

It will undoubtedly honour and motivate those representing their nation in the truest sense of the game! Cheteshwar Pujara offered his thoughts about X.

It will usher in a new era for red-ball cricket, and the BCCI’s plan may persuade other cricket boards to follow suit.

It’s especially necessary for the less powerful cricket-playing countries, but doing so will cost them a significant amount of money.

The BCCI has an easy time with this method since the board makes a lot of money from ticket sales, viewership, and advertising.

Another important factor in the board’s ability to generate large sums of money for the national advancement of cricket is the Indian Premier League.

Not only did Cheteshwar Pujara express gratitude to the BCCI, but a number of past cricket players shared the same sentiment.

Aakash Chopra and Sunil Gavaskar, among others, have praised the initiative and are enthusiastic about the future of Test cricket, which once seemed hopeless.

With Saurashtra, Cheteshwar Pujara enjoyed a very successful Ranji Trophy season. The squad entered the 2024 competition as the defending champions, but Tamil Nadu’s inning-and-33-run victory kept them out of the quarterfinals.

Cheteshwar Pujara scored 829 runs from 13 innings in the 8 Saurashtra matches he participated in against Jharkhand, Haryana, Vidarbha, Services, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Manipur, and Tamil Nadu.

In any case, he was not included in the BCCI central contract, and thus will not be receiving any benefits from the new Test arrangement anytime soon.
