Kobbie Mainoo's Contract Triumph: Manchester United Wages Set to Skyrocket!

After making his first-team debut, Kobbie Mainoo, a midfielder for Manchester United, is reportedly going to treble his pay at Old Trafford.

One of the Red Devils’ best prospects, the 18-year-old missed out on his opportunity to make an impact early in the 2023–24 season because of an ankle injury he suffered during the preseason.

After recovering from the condition over several months, Mainoo is now out of the treatment room and was given confidence by Erik ten Hag from the start of last weekend’s 3-0 Premier League victory over Everton.

After making his Red Devils debut against Charlton Athletic in an EFL Cup match in January, Mainoo was praised for a performance that was above average for his age. A few days later, he came off the bench for his Champions League debut against Galatasaray.

Mainoo was passed over in favour of Sofyan Amrabat in Europe, but the Fiorentina loanee was passed over for the young player in Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle United.

Mainoo has been a bright spot for the 20-time English champions despite Man United’s lacklustre on the field and drawn-out takeover drama, and his quick ascension is about to pay off.

Mainoo is currently paid a meagre £10,000 per week at the Theatre of Dreams, but according to a stipulation in his contract, he will soon be paid £20,000 per week. This information was reported by the Daily Star.

The Red Devils signed the 2005-born lynchpin to a new long-term contract in February that would keep him through the conclusion of the 2026–2027 season with a one-year option.

Instead of Man United and Mainoo reaching a new agreement, it appears that the midfielder’s current contracts have a clause stating that his pay will increase after he establishes himself as a first-team regular.

According to the article, Mainoo is “close” to earning an additional £10,000 per week and would already be receiving a better pay if he hadn’t spent a few months in the treatment room. However, his salary raise hasn’t been activated yet.

The 18-year-old, who has been a member of the team since he was nine years old, played the whole 80 minutes of the Red Devils’ match against Newcastle on Saturday. This was his sixth appearance in the first team.

But Newcastle, led by Anthony Gordon’s strike in the second half, rightfully won 1-0 in bitterly cold conditions, wearing Mainoo and his Man United colleagues out.

In addition, Man United lost 2-0 at St. James’ Park in the 2022–23 Premier League and was defeated by the Magpies in this year’s EFL Cup. This marks the first time since January 1922 that Man United has lost three straight games against Newcastle in all competitions.

After suffering their sixth league defeat of the year, the Red Devils are now in seventh place in the Premier League standings. Ten Hag’s team will next face Chelsea at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
