Premier League: Brighton vs Everton – In the Premier League match on Saturday, Everton travels south to play Brighton & Hove Albion in an attempt to repeat the incredible massacre at Amex Stadium from the previous season.

Following a 5-0 thumping of Sheffield United, the Seagulls will host their Merseyside rivals, while Sean Dyche’s team managed to hold managerless Crystal Palace to a 1-1 draw on Monday.

Roberto De Zerbi’s team suffered a heartbreaking late-night 2-1 loss in North London, and the manager of the Seagulls was missing from the match because of suspension and dental work. However, on February 18, the Seagulls manager took the ideal tonic at Bramall Lane.

Aided by an early red card for Mason Holgate, who accepted the walk of shame for a horrific challenge on Kaoru Mitoma, Brighton scored five goals without a response from Danny Welbeck, Facundo Buonanotte, Jack Robinson’s own goal, and a brace from Simon Adingra in the second half.

Less than a month had passed since Brighton had also scored five goals against the Blades in the FA Cup. The Seagulls, having twice scored at Bramall Lane, had surpassed Newcastle United to take seventh position in the Premier League standings.

Brighton’s performance last weekend was in line with a somewhat unusual trend: since defeating Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 at the end of December, the team has scored at least four goals in each of the previous nine games. This puts them one point ahead of the Magpies in the Europa Conference League qualification slot.

Two of those impressive performances have occurred on their Amex patch against Spurs and Crystal Palace. Since September’s Europa League loss to AEK Athens, De Zerbi’s team has gone undefeated in 11 games overall. Additionally, they haven’t finished second in a Premier League home game since August.

Although Everton’s run of victories at Goodison Park is not particularly noteworthy, the Toffees have not lost a Premier League game there since the start of the season. When Crystal Palace visited Walton, they shared the spoils for the third straight home game in the top division.

Due to Roy Hodgson’s medical emergency and resignation, Ray Lewington was left in charge of Palace’s touchline during their match against Sean Dyche’s Everton. Everton lost 1-0 thanks to a stunning goal from Jordan Ayew, but with six minutes left in regular time, Amadou Onana salvaged a point.

Because to Liverpool’s 4-1 thumping of Luton Town on Wednesday night, Everton was able to go back above the dotted line into 17th position, where they remain. The Toffees’ better goal difference allowed them to stay above their newly promoted opponents.

However, Dyche’s team is still not doing well enough to survive. Following four wins in a row in the Premier League during a two-week stretch in December, the Toffees have lost their last eight games, which is the longest winless streak in the English Premier League.

There hasn’t been a home victory in the last six meetings between Brighton and Everton, though few supporters of either team can forget the incredible 5-1 Toffees victory at the Amex last season. Dyche’s team also held the Seagulls to a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park in November.

Five injured Brighton players were not there for the crushing of Sheffield United. Among them was Joao Pedro, who scored three goals at Bramall Lane in the FA Cup, but is anticipated to miss several weeks due to a thigh injury.

James Milner is currently being treated for a thigh injury but should be the first person out of the medical bay on the conveyor belt; he is expected to leave the facility at the end of the month. Julio Enciso (knee), Jack Hinshelwood (foot), and Solly March (knee) are still restricted to the treatment room.

In the Seagulls’ victory over Sheffield United, De Zerbi made tactical substitutions at the half, pulling out defence duo Tariq Lamptey and Adam Webster. It’s possible that the manager also took into account the team’s prior fitness difficulties.

In terms of Everton’s availability, Andre Gomes (calf) is nearing the end of his recuperation from his most recent injury and might push his way back into the starting lineup. Dele Alli (groyne) and Arnaut Danjuma (ankle) won’t be back in the first team picture just yet.

Due to illness, Captain Seamus Coleman was absent from the starting lineup for Palace’s visit, but the 35-year-old should recover in time for Saturday, when Dyche might possibly take into account making a few more changes further up the field.

After his crucial late intervention against Palace, Onana will undoubtedly demote Idrissa Gueye to the bench. Jack Harrison should also be given consideration to take Ashley Young’s spot on the flank.
