Premier League: Luton Town vs. Everton: In this Friday night’s Premier League action, an Everton team guaranteed a spot in the top division will visit a Luton Town team still fighting for a spot at Kenilworth Road.

The Toffees’ 1-0 victory against Brentford last weekend extended their unending Premier League stay, while their hosts, who lost 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers, are facing relegation.

Luton’s admirable run of good form may have given rise to dreams of winning the Premier League for a second year in a row, but the Hatters’ chances of surviving are now beyond their control after they were defeated for the third time in a row last weekend at Molineux.

Rob Edwards’s team was destroyed by Hwang Hee-chan and Toti in the West Midlands, where Carlton Morris’s 10th goal of the season, scored ten minutes from the end, was unable to launch a comeback following 5-1 thumpings at the hands of Brentford and Manchester City.

Burnley, Luton, and Nottingham Forest—the latter of whom are currently on course to stay up—are now in a nerve-wracking three-way battle for survival, with Sheffield United already doomed to Championship football and Brentford and Everton certain to finish above the dotted line.

Luton, who are in eighteenth place, have a point deficit to close against Tricky Trees and lead Burnley by one. However, the Clarets have the most difficult remaining three games of their schedule, with matches against Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United followed by a six-point play-off against Forest.

Though they have only won one of their previous 14 Premier League games, Edwards’s team cannot worry about anything in Lancashire; in the top four divisions of English football, only Rotherham United and Sheffield United can claim a worse record.

The Hatters, who have already secured their place at England’s top table for the 2024–25 season, may at least rely on a 13-game scoring streak in top division home games. However, they will be crossing their fingers that Everton may ease off the gas pedal a little.

The Jordan Pickford and James Tarkowski-inspired Toffees defense kept the Bees at bay with relative ease as they hosted Brentford, a team that had ironically been guaranteed their own Premier League status prior to kickoff at Goodison Park. Idrissa Gueye would emerge victorious at the other end of the field.

Now that they are comfortably positioned in 15th place and assured that, absent any further point deductions, they will not experience their first-ever Premier League relegation, Sean Dyche’s team will be looking up the division rather than down as they celebrate a winning run of three games.

Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, Merseyside rivals, also left Goodison Park empty-handed in April. However, Everton’s away performance is still atrocious; in ten road games across all competitions, they have failed to win and have only managed four goals in that poor run of play.

In addition, Luton has already left Merseyside with two victories over Everton this season. They have won the FA Cup and the Premier League 2-1, their first-ever victories in the competition. However, the Toffees’ only previous visit to Kenilworth Road was in the 2007–08 EFL Cup, where Tim Cahill’s extra-time goal gave them a 1-0 victory.

The ongoing injury issue at Luton has not helped the team’s fight against relegation, and Edwards will undoubtedly be missing seven more injured players for Friday’s match, including Tom Lockyer, who declared he would be at “peace” with retirement following his cardiac episode.

The following athletes are also out of contention: Issa Kabore (ankle), Marvellous Nakamba (knee), Jacob Brown (knee), Amari’i Bell (hamstring), Dan Potts (thigh), and Chiedozie Ogbene (thigh). Edwards has also acknowledged that he needs to consider the risk vs. return factor in relation to Mads Andersen’s calf condition.

Elijah Adebayo, a nine-goal striker, saw 12 minutes off the bench in the team’s defeat against Wolves, marking a rare positive development. The 26-year-old will probably be considered for a start here, as the Hatters should not err on the side of caution right now.

In the latter stages of the season, the Everton medical staff will also be tasked with seeing to the health of a few new players, such as Vitaliy Mykolenko, who will miss the rest of the campaign due to an ankle injury he sustained during the Merseyside derby victory over Liverpool.

While Beto is still recovering from his painful head injury against Forest, the marksman is anticipated to return before the end of the season. Nathan Patterson (thigh) and Dele Alli (groyne) are in the similar situation.

Only Dominic Calvert-Lewin (sickness), Lewis Dobbin (ankle), and Seamus Coleman (groyne) remain on Dyche’s touch-and-go list; the Toffees don’t need to take any unnecessary chances now that their survival is assured. Coleman may be back for Friday.

Luton Town possible starting lineup:

Kaminski; Mengi, Burke, Osho; Hashioka, Lokonga, Barkley, Doughty; Chong; Morris, Adebayo

Everton possible starting lineup:

Pickford; Godfrey, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Young; Harrison, Garner, Gueye, McNeil; Doucoure; Calvert-Lewin

Our Prediction for this match 1-1 draw or 2-1 won by Everton
