Former Indian cricketer and now well-known politician Kirti Azad believes that batting maestro Virat Kohli ought to be part of India’s 15-man roster for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which takes place later in June.

The Men in Blue will have another chance to win an ICC trophy at the event, which is scheduled to take place in the USA and West Indies starting on June 1st.

India had two chances to win a significant ICC competition last year, but Australia won both times.

First, the Australians won by 209 runs in the ICC World Test Championship 2023 final, which took place in June 2023 at South London’s famous Kia Oval stadium.

Then, on November 19, in the final match of the Cricket World Cup played in India, the country lost to the same opponents once more at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

That was Virat Kohli’s fifth defeat in an ICC event final, beginning with his defeat to Sri Lanka in the 2014 T20 World Cup.

The Telegraph revealed that Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar did not want Virat Kohli on the team, which sparked a lot of whispers in the town that he would skip the flight to the USA and the West Indies.

It was also said that Agarkar personally discussed with Kohli the need for India to adopt a far more assertive strategy and the need of giving preference to young players who possess it.

Agarkar soon began to face harsh criticism, with many former cricket players worldwide calling it a “joke.” The most recent to respond is Kirti Azad.

He said that Agarkar was unable to persuade anyone—not even himself, in fact—that Virat Kohli will be chosen for the Indian team, regardless of his form or anything else.

Azad further disclosed that skipper Rohit Sharma and BCCI general secretary Jay Shah had discussed the matter, with Sharma stating that Kohli must attend at all costs.

“Why should Jay Shah, who is not a selector, assign Ajit Agarkar the task of approaching the other selectors and persuading them that Virat Kohli will not be playing for the Twenty20 team?

There was till March 15th to do this. If reports are to be trusted, Ajit Agarkar failed to persuade the other selectors or himself.

“Rohit Sharma was also asked by Jay Shah, but he responded, ‘We need Virat Kohli at all costs.'” Before the team is chosen, it will be officially announced that Virat Kohli will participate in the T20 World Cup. Through X, Kirti Azad stated, “Nincompoops shouldn’t involve themselves in the selection process.”

On June 5, the Indians will play Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2024. Four days later, on June 9, they will play their bitter rivals, Pakistan.

India’s final two league stage matches will be against the United States of America, the hosts, and Canada.

Virat Kohli, who has been sidelined since January after the birth of his second kid, landed at Bengaluru airport last night in preparation for the 2024 Indian Premier League and joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp.

When RCB takes on Chennai Super Kings in the season-opening game on March 22 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, he will be in action right away.
