Sanju Samson’s Unlikely Cricket Journey: A Remarkable Reaction
Many people were taken aback by Sanju Samson‘s exclusion from India’s T20I team for the current series against Australia.
It was widely anticipated that the wicketkeeper-batsman would be included in the lineup for the series, which started just three days after the World Cup, since the majority of senior and first-choice players were rested.
He was getting frequent opportunities in the ODI and T20I teams prior to the World Cup, and he was also selected as a travelling reserve for the Asia Cup.
Since then, though, events for the Kerala star have not gone as planned.
Not only did he not make the cut for the Asian Games, but he was not included in the ODI team for the home series against Australia right before the World Cup.
He experienced yet another blow earlier this week when the selectors chose not to include him in the team for the current Twenty20 International series.
Given how his international career has unfolded thus far, analysts and fans alike consider Sanju Samson to be among the unluckiest cricket players.
He received his first India call-up in 2014, following his meteoric rise to prominence as a juvenile prodigy, but he hasn’t been able to establish himself in the Indian squad yet.
Despite doing admirably in the IPL, he has only participated in 13 ODIs and 24 T20Is in the nearly ten years after his first India call-up. Sanju Samson, on his part, has stated that he has already accomplished more than he had anticipated and does not consider himself to be unlucky.
“I’m known as the least likely cricket player, but I’ve accomplished far more than I ever imagined,” Sanju Samson said to Dhanya Varma.
The next assignment for Team India is to play two Tests, three ODIs, and three Twenty20 Internationals in South Africa.
Sanju Samson will be looking to gain a recall and an opportunity to establish himself as the T20 World Cup is scheduled for the following year.
