Manchester United’s Contract Extension for Victor Lindelof

Manchester United's Contract Extension for Victor Lindelof

Manchester United are allegedly planning to activate a one-year contract extension for Victor Lindelof.

Lindelof, who joined Manchester United from Benfica in 2017, has appeared in 241 competitive games for the 20-time English champions.

Despite spending the last six years at Old Trafford, his future is uncertain due to his contract issue.

The 29-year-old is in the final year of his contract and could depart on a free transfer at the conclusion of the season.

However, according to the Daily Star, Manchester United will exercise a one-year option in his contract to keep him until the summer of 2025.

Manchester United have decided to prevent Lindelof from leaving on the cheap if he leaves in January or the summer transfer window.

According to the source, Juventus and AC Milan are interested in versatile defenders.

The Red Devils hope that by extending Lindelof’s current contract, they will be able to fetch an acceptable cost in the area of £15 million.

Due to Manchester United’s defense injury crisis, the Sweden international has been given consistent playing time this season.

Injuries have hampered the Red Devils’ first-choice central defense partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has also been left short on full-back options following the injuries to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, Sergio Reguilon, and Tyrell Malacia.

Despite the absence of several first-team regulars, Lindelof has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season.

Despite appearing in all but one of Manchester United’s 11 competitive games this season, he is sure to fall down the pecking order when injured players return to full fitness.
