Travis Head will be unavailable for the first half of the ICC World Cup 2023, according to Australia’s senior selector George Bailey.

George Bailey expressed optimism that Travis Head’s return will help the team’s performance in the tournament’s final rounds.

Australia released their final World Cup team on Thursday, September 28.

Despite an injury, Travis Head was retained in the 15-man squad. Marnus Labuschagne came in for the injured left-arm spinner Ashton Agar.

Travis Head Has Been a Really Important Player in ODIs – George Bailey

Former Australian captain George Bailey emphasised the importance of Travis Head’s position in the ODI team and voiced optimism about his availability during the World Cup.

“We have made the decision to carry Travis through the early stages with the aim of him being available around the mid-part of the tournament,” Bailey said on Thursday

“He has been a really important player in this ODI team and we are hopeful his return can provide a positive impetus as it gets to the business end of the tournament.”

Head suffered a wrist injury in the fourth One-Day International against South Africa, ruling him out of the just finished three-match series against India.

At the top of the list, Mitchell Marsh is expected to create a partnership with David Warner.

We Were unable to Carry Two Injured Players – George Bailey

Australia had to make a difficult decision to leave Ashton Agar out of the squad, according to George Bailey, emphasising that they couldn’t take two injured players.

“This was a tough call but unfortunately, we couldn’t carry both Travis and Ashton into the tournament with the injuries they have,” Bailey said.

Ashton Agar was left out of the squad due to his inability to recover from a calf injury in time for Australia’s warm-up matches. Only one specialist spinner, Adam Zampa, has been chosen, with Glenn Maxwell anticipated to give some overs.

Australia World Cup Squad: Pat Cummins (c), Sean Abbott, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
