Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) has been punished after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 qualifying match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Shimron Hetmyer was disciplined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for violating the code of conduct during the most recent game.

On Friday, May 24, the Rajasthan Royals were defeated by SunRisers Hyderabad by a devastating 36 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

In the game of life and death, the Jaipur-based squad was unable to chase down 176 runs. In the current season, the Royals were unable to progress to the top match.

According to the IPL Code of Conduct, Shimron Hetmyer was penalised 10% of his match earnings for a Level 1 infraction.

During the run chase, the left-handed hitter was dismissed and lost his cool, smashing the stumps. The southpaw quickly resolved the issue by accepting the Match Referee’s penalty.

Abhishek Sharma, a left-arm spinner for SunRisers Hyderabad, made it difficult for the West Indies batter to score runs.

Just four runs off ten balls was all he could get before Abhishek Sharma took him out. The 27-year-old batsman made an attempt to use his bat to hit the stumps before making his way back to the pavilion.

“For violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Qualifier 2 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 24, Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals has been fined 10% of his match fees,” the BCCI stated.

In accordance with Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Hetmyer committed a Level 1 offence. He acknowledged the offence and consented to the Match Referees punishment.

The decision made by the Match Referee is final and enforceable for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct, according to the BCCI.

Hetmyer was fired, and Dhruv Jurel tried hard after that. Rovman Powell was removed by T Natarajan after scoring just six runs off of twelve balls.

With 56 runs off 35 balls—seven fours and two sixes—Jurel was still undefeated. SRH progressed to the final, while RR’s IPL 2024 campaign came to an end.

Abhishek Sharma and Shahbaz Ahmed played a key role in limiting the Rajasthan Royals. Abhishek claimed two wickets for 24 runs, while Shahbaz claimed three wickets for 23 runs. T Natarajan and Pat Cummins each took one wicket. For his efforts, Shahbaz was voted “Player of the Match.”

SunRisers Hyderabad, who were asked to bat first, had already set a goal of 175 runs. A vital half-century was delivered by Heinrich Klaasen, and Travis Head (34) and Rahul Tripathi (37) also made significant contributions. Three wickets apiece were claimed by Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, and Sandeep Sharma.

Trent Boult 3-45, Avesh Khan 3-27, and Heinrich Klaasen 50 for Sunrisers Hyderabad, a quick score of 175 for 9.

Rajasthan Royals: 139 for 7 (Abhishek Sharma 2-24), Shahbaz Ahmed 3-23, Dhruv Jurel 56
