After the January transfer market opened, Ryan Sessegnon, a full-back for Tottenham Hotspur, was supposedly the aim of Manchester United.

This season, Erik ten Hag has been sidelined by defensive ailments, which have been made worse by Spurs’ recall of Sergio Reguilon this past week.

Due to his own injury struggles, Sessegnon only made his season debut during Friday’s FA Cup victory over Burnley.

With Destiny Udogie’s rise this season, it seems doubtful that the 23-year-old, who entered the game in the 83rd minute of the third-round match, will find a place in Ange Postecoglou’s starting lineup.

After signing Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Hannibal Mejbri to new contracts, United has permitted Donny van de Beek to depart on loan for Eintracht Frankfurt. However, they are eager to sign Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial to new agreements.

However, United’s January spending budget will be severely limited as a result of their extravagant summer expenditure, leaving loan deals as their only realistic option for adding players.

Given the dearth of choices at the back right now, the most noteworthy aspect of United’s early January transaction is the early return of Reguilon to Spurs following his loan stay.

Ten Hag is left with little choices in that position due to Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, and Lisandro Martinez’s injury problems.

Although Diogo Dalot has frequently been picked for that position over Reguilon, it creates a future void in the United team.

Wan-Bissaka’s comeback has made it easier for Ten Hag to play Dalot as a left-back, but United lacks any senior players with full-back experience aside from those two.

According to The Independent, Man United is reportedly targeting Sessegnon because they lack options in wide defensive areas going forward.

Sessegnon was a regular starter for Antonio Conte and competed with Ivan Perisic for a spot last season, but he has struggled with injuries since moving to North London.

The left wing-back played just 23 times in all competitions the previous season, and with Udogie’s form, his playing time at Spurs suddenly seems threatened.
