According to reports, Real Madrid is considering trying to re-sign Casemiro and Raphael Varane from Manchester United.

Los Blancos have recovered more than £100 million since 2021 as a result of splitting with two players who were crucial to their decade-long dominance in both La Liga and the Champions League.

Between 2011 and 2021, Varane made 360 appearances in all competitions before being sold for an estimated £42 million.

Casemiro, meanwhile, made 336 appearances between 2012 and 2023 before deciding to take on a new challenge at Old Trafford and depart Real Madrid for a possible £70 million if add-ons are implemented.

Both players have had success in Spain, but after moving to the Theatre of Dreams, they have not been able to achieve anything close to that level of success.

Despite Varane’s 87 appearances for United, it is said that the current Red Devils management is not interested in exercising a clause that would have kept him on after this season.

Regarding Casemiro, the Brazil international signed a contract that expired in 2026, but since his debut season at United didn’t live up to expectations, he has been constantly linked to a move away from the team.

Fichajes claims that Real officials are keeping an eye on the issue in case it becomes possible to secure a deal for either player.

Given that Varane will likely be a free agency in July and that Real has struggled at times this season with injuries in their central defence, he is obviously the most likely choice.

Although Casemiro’s willingness to take on challenges elsewhere would prevent him from returning to Real, United’s financial situation might force them to consider a sale.

The club’s new minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who took over as manager of football operations, would be open to drastically cutting the wage expenditure, especially for a player who recently turned thirty-two.

According to reports, Saudi Arabian clubs are interested in both players and would probably be willing to pay more for Casemiro than Real Madrid or any other European team.

Real Madrid has plenty of alternatives in their engine room, but that might change given that Toni Kroos’ retirement plans are still up in the air and Luka Modric’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
