According to reports, Real Sociedad is not expected to sign Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney long-term.

After being granted permission to go from the Emirates Stadium in the summer, the Scotland international is presently nearing the end of a season-long loan agreement with the Basque team.

Tierney’s loan stint with Real Sociedad has eventually been hindered by a couple of hamstring ailments, despite his hopes of receiving consistent playing time.

Before being forced to miss nearly a month earlier this year due to another muscle issue, Tierney missed nine games in the first half of the season due to injury.

The left-back has had to make do with 14 starts in 21 competitive outings for Imanol Alguacil’s team due to his fitness difficulties.

Since Tierney does not have a buy option in his loan agreement, if the Scotsman were to stay in San Sebastian, the two clubs would need to work out a transfer fee.

However, Real Sociedad is not anticipated to sign Tierney on a long-term contract during the summer transfer window, says journalist Charles Watts.

The La Liga team is reportedly going to find it difficult to meet Arsenal’s financial demands, and even if they were able to come to an agreement on a deal with the Gunners, it’s not sure that they would want to acquire Tierney.

Although La Real is a fan of Tierney and appears to be pleased with his desire to fit in in Spain, his history of injuries may discourage them from considering a long-term move.

Tierney was supposed to go to Real Sociedad on loan last summer, but Arsenal chose to send him there instead as they couldn’t find a serious buyer.

Prior to the 2024–25 season, the North London club anticipated the defender would demonstrate his fitness and raise his market value.

However, if Arsenal is to hold out for a hefty transfer fee, Tierney’s fitness issues might make finding a new team challenging.

As things stand, Tierney’s contract with Arsenal is slated to expire in June 2026, so he will be back at Emirates Stadium this summer.
