Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricketer, talked candidly on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma‘s inclusion in the T20I team for the forthcoming series against Afghanistan. It was highlighted by Aakash Chopra that the selectors lacked the guts to reject one candidate and go with the other.

The T20I team for the forthcoming home series was unveiled by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). After a 14-month hiatus, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma rejoined the team. Their first T20I match since the 2022 World Cup semi-final defeat is now being played.

In order to concentrate on getting ready for the 2023 World Cup, the senior pair missed the T20I matches. In Twenty20 Internationals, star all-around player Hardik Pandya led the side. Now that Rohit has been named captain for the forthcoming series, the selectors have shown their faith in his ability to lead.

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra shared his thoughts on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli rejoining the T20I team, stating that both players would either be selected or left off.

I don’t think any selector has the courage to remove one and choose the other, even if they had considered dropping both. That’s not going to occur, Aakash Chopra declared.

Both would have been chosen or left off. It would have been either Rohit-Kohli’s selection or his removal. It is impossible for anyone to choose one and discard the other; no one has the courage to do it,” he continued.

The Indian cricket team will play Afghanistan at home in a three-match Twenty20 International series. The matches in Indore on January 14 and Bengaluru on January 17 will follow the series’ opening day in Mohali on Thursday, January 11.

The forthcoming Twenty20 International series will be India’s final warm-up before the West Indies and USA host the T20 World Cup in 2024. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 players’ performances will be attentively watched by the selectors.

Due to their individual injuries, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ruturaj Gaikwad were all ruled out. Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer were left off the squad. Not included in the team is the vice-captain of the most recent Twenty20 International series, Ravindra Jadeja.

To strengthen the middle order, the team has included left-handers Rinku Singh and Tilak Verma. After missing the South African series, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube rejoined the Indian team. Axar Patel, an all-rounder who bowls spin, has also rejoined the T20I team.

Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah are not playing in the T20I series. The fast bowling assault will be spearheaded by Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, and Arshdeep Singh. Four spinners, including Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, and Kuldeep Yadav, have been selected by the selectors.

India T20I squad for Afghanistan series: Rohit Sharma (C), S Gill, Y Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, W Sundar, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar.
